Yuko Setoguchi, who works as a clerk at a shipyard in a desolate provincial town, has a fateful encounter with a former racehorse that escaped from a horse-drawn cart on the national highway on her way to work. The horse’s name is Strada. The horse was sold to a club on the outskirts of town as a riding horse. When she sits astride the horse, she feels a sense of destiny and falls in love with the horse.

In order to restore Strada to its former glory, Yuko begins to embezzle the union’s money. She falsifies the books and embezzles what was supposed to be in her mind, a temporary loan. The money quickly exceeds a hundred million. Soon the crime becomes known to her colleague, a man named Ushio…
