部屋にある、モノの声が聞こえてしまうのだ。服や靴、本や家具がみな、話しかけてくる。
わたしは、依頼された家の“片づけ”を手伝う仕事をしている。
今、わたしの隣にいる片づけの相棒はボクス。おしゃべりな小箱だ。
どうして、片づけが仕事になったのか? どうやって、モノの声が聞こえるのか?
そもそも小箱が相棒って、どういうこと?
きっとあなたは不思議に思うだろう。けれども、これはどれも本当の話。
わたしが片づけてきた部屋は、千を超えた。
服を手放せない主婦、本を捨てられない新聞記者、なんでも溜め込んでしまう夫婦、好きなものが見つけられない少女、死の間際に片づけを決意する老婦人……。
部屋の数だけ、そこに暮らす人と、おしゃべりなモノたちとの思い出がある。
今からすこしだけ、その話を聞いてもらえたらと思う。
これはわたしが実際に体験した、すこし不思議な七つの部屋にまつわる物語だ。

A housewife who can’t let go of her clothes, a newspaper reporter who can’t throw away her books, a couple who hoard everything, a girl who can’t find anything she likes, and an old woman who decides to clean up at the moment of her death: ……
Each room has its own memories of the people who live there and the things they talk about.
I would like to share a few stories with you now.
This is a story about seven rooms that I actually experienced and that are a little mysterious.
